After two months in the Dominican Republic it was time for our squad to move on to our next country, Guatemala! First on the docket, team debrief! We gathered our two teams to reunite T-squad once again and set out to Antigua for a week of rest and reflection. Joined by our squad mentor and coaches, we were able to have fun, get poured into, and ease our way into the new Guatemalan culture.

After enjoying our time together in Antigua, we then split back up into our teams and were sent out to our ministry partners. My team took the 10 hour drive up to Peten, Guatemala to work with the young group of passionate locals who make up One Way Community. With relationships already established in the local communities, we are able to walk alongside OWC by teaching in their schools, participating in house visits, and volunteering at kids camps. Our days usually include all of the above activities so as you can imagine, they feel quite long. Regardless (and with acknowledgment that it is well worth it), we are quickly falling in love with the communities here and are so honored to partner with our new friends at One Way.

With only one week left in Peten, we soak in all we can while also acknowledging our excitement for what’s next. When our time here is done we will be heading to the Adventure in Missions base where two racers in our squad will be raised up and trained to be our new leaders. We will also be changing up our teams to experience life in ministry with others from our squad. This will be a difficult time of change but also one that is so necessary for our development both individually and as a whole squad. Be praying for us during that transition!

Once we have had a quick moment to settle into our new teams, we will enter into our first Ask The Lord (ATL) month. Ultimately, what that consists of is a freedom and invitation to simply ask the Lord what he has for us. Where do you want us to go? Who do you want us to partner with? It’s an opportunity to live out and practice what it means to live your everyday life in tune with what God is doing and how you can be a part of it. As much as uncertainty unnerves me, I am so excited to practice this everyday style of walk with Christ and I’m so excited to share with you what that ends up looking like.

One response to “Guatemala Update!”

  1. Lord be with you through transition/pivot point in your journey and for you to be having answers from Him in your questioning/pondering/prayers, Sierra!
